Klarinet, Klarnet ya da namıdiğer Gırnata 17. yüzyıl sonlarına doğru icat edilmiş bir çalgıdır. Johann Christoph Denner, Klarinetin mucidi olarak kabul edilir. Denner’ın Klarineti günümüz hâline getirmesini sağlayan, fikir aldığı enstrüman Obua’dır. Kalak kısmı Klarinet’e 1730’lu yıllarda eklenmiştir.

İstemihan Taviloğlu, Lşarinet Konçertosu (Op. 12 Klarinet Konçertosu) besteleyen ilk Türk bestecidir. “Türk Klarinet Konçertosu” adını verdiği eserini Cumhurbaşkanlığı Senfoni Orkestrası için 3 ay gibi kısa bir sürede bestelemiştir. Eserin ilk icrası 1979 yılında Gürer Aykal yönetimi ile CSO’da yapılmıştır ve solist Aykut Doğansoy’dur.
