Popularly viewed as one of the best American films ever made, the multi-generational crime saga The Godfather is a touchstone of cinema: one of the most widely imitated, quoted, and lampooned movies of all time. Marlon Brando and Al Pacino star as Vito Corleone and his youngest son, Michael, respectively. It is the late 1940s in New York and Corleone is, in the parlance of organized crime, a "godfather" or "don," the head of a Mafia family. Michael, a free thinker who defied his father by enlisting in the Marines to fight in World War II, has returned a captain and a war hero. Having long ago rejected the family business, Michael shows up at the wedding of his sister, Connie (Talia Shire), with his non-Italian girlfriend, Kay (Diane Keaton), who learns for the first time about the family "business." A few months later at Christmas time, the don barely survives being shot by gunmen in the employ of a drug-trafficking rival whose request for aid from the Corleones' political connections was rejected. After saving his father from a second assassination attempt, Michael persuades his hotheaded eldest brother, Sonny (James Caan), and family advisors Tom Hagen (Robert Duvall) and Sal Tessio (Abe Vigoda) that he should be the one to exact revenge on the men responsible. After murdering a corrupt police captain and the drug trafficker, Michael hides out in Sicily while a gang war erupts at home. Falling in love with a local girl, Michael marries her, but she is later slain by Corleone enemies in an attempt on Michael's life. Sonny is also butchered, having been betrayed by Connie's husband. As Michael returns home and convinces Kay to marry him, his father recovers and makes peace with his rivals, realizing that another powerful don was pulling the strings behind the narcotics endeavor that began the gang warfare. Once Michael has been groomed as the new don, he leads the family to a new era of prosperity, then launches a campaign of murderous revenge against those who once tried to wipe out the Corleones, consolidating his family's power and completing his own moral downfall. Nominated for 11 Academy Awards and winning for Best Picture, Best Actor (Marlon Brando), and Best Adapted Screenplay, The Godfather was followed by a pair of sequels.

Read the book, Watched the movie and I still cannot get enough of this masterpiece of a story. It stood the test of time... Really my words are not enough to describe it and I would not say anything new that has not been already said anyways. car and walk through the gate, noticing armed men all over the mall. Tessio greets them.

CLEMENZA

What's with all the new faces?

TESSIO

We'll need'em now. After the hospital thing, Sonny got mad. We hit Bruno Tattaglia 4

o'clock this morning.

CLEMENZA

Jesus Christ...

(then, motions to Michael to come on)

It looks like a fortress around here...

CUT TO: Inside the Corleone office -day

SONNY (to Tom)

Tom-anuch! Hey, a hundred button men on the street twenty-four hours a day; that Turk

shows one hair on his ass, he's dead --

TOM (going to sit down)

Yeah?

SONNY

-- believe me...

(then, to Michael, whose face is bruised from McCluskey's punch)

Hey, Michael, come're, let me look at you. You look beautiful! Beautiful! Just gorgeous!

(then, to Tom)

Hey, listen to this -- the Turk wants to talk. Eh gosh -- imagine the nerve of the sonofabitch,

eh? Craps out last night, and wants a meetin' today...

TOM

What did he say?

SONNY

What did he say -- Badda-beep, badda-bap, badda-boop, badda-beep -- He wants us to send

Michael here to proposition. And the promise is, that the deal is so good, that we can't

refuse. Eh...

TOM (as Tessio enters the room)

What about Bruno Tattaglia?

SONNY

That's part of the deal -- Bruno cancels out what they did to my father...

TOM

Sonny, we ought to hear what they have to say...

SONNY (standing in front of Tom, who's seated)

No; no; no! No more! Not this time, consiglieri. No more meetin's, no more discussions, no

more Sollozzo tricks. You give'em one message: I want Sollozzo -- if not, it's all-out war --

we go to the mattresses...

TOM (stands)

Some of the other families won't sit still for all-out war!

SONNY

Then they hand me Sollozzo!

TOM

Your father wouldn't want to hear this! This is business, not personal, Sonny!

SONNY

They shot my father -- that's business? Your ass...

TOM

Even the shooting of your father was business, not personal, Sonny!

SONNY (now seated behind the desk)

Well, then, business will have to suffer, alright? And listen -- do me a favor, Tom -- No

more advice on how to patch things up. Just help me win, please, alright?

TOM (after they settle down)

I found out about this Captain McCluskey who broke Mike's jaw...

SONNY

What about 'im?

TOM

Now he's definitely on Sollozzo's payroll, and for big money. McCluskey has agreed to be

the Turk's bodyguard. What you have to understand, Sonny, is that while Sollozzo is being

guarded like this, he is invulnerable. Now nobody has ever gunned down a New York police

captain -- never. It would be disastrous. All the Five Families would come after you, Sonny.

The Corleone Family would be outcasts! Even the old man's political protection would run

for cover! So do me a favor -- take this into consideration.

SONNY

Alright. We'll wait.

MICHAEL

We can't wait.

SONNY

Huh?

MICHAEL (who's seated with his arms on the chair's arms)

We can't wait. I don't care what Sollozzo says about a deal, he's gonna kill Pop, that's it.

That's the key for him. Gotta get Sollozzo.

CLEMENZA

Mike is right...

SONNY

Lemme ask you something, Professor, I mean -- what about McCluskey? Huh? What do we

do with this -- cop here?

MICHAEL

They wanna have a meeting with me, right? It will be me -- McCluskey -- and Sollozzo.

Let's set the meeting. Get our informers to find out where it's gonna be held. Now, we insist

it's a public place -- a bar, a restaurant -- some place where there's people so I feel safe.

They're gonna search me when I first meet them, right, so I can't have a weapon on me then.

But if Clemenza can figure a way -- to have a weapon planted there for me -- then I'll kill

'em both.

[Clemenza, Tessio and Sonny laugh. Tom shrugs]

SONNY

Hey, whataya gonna do, nice college boy, eh? Didn't want to get mixed up in the Family

business, huh? Now you wanna gun down a police captain, why, because he slapped ya in

the face a little bit? Hah? What do you think this is the Army, where you shoot'em a mile

away? You've gotta get up close like this and bada-bing! you blow their brains all over your

nice Ivy League suit. Come're...

MICHAEL (as Sonny kisses his head)

Sonny...

SONNY

You're taking this very personal. Tom, this is business and this man is taking it very very

personal.

MICHAEL

Where does it say that you can't kill a cop?

HAGEN

Come on, Mikey...

MICHAEL

Tom, wait a minute. I'm talking about a cop -- that's mixed up in drugs. I'm talking about ah

- ah - a dishonest cop -- a crooked cop who got mixed up in the rackets and got what was

coming to him. That's a terrific story. And we have newspaper people on the payroll, don't

we, Tom?

[Hagen nods in the affirmative]

And they might like a story like that.

HAGEN

They might, they just might...

Now based in Lake Tahoe, Michael conspires to make inroads in Las Vegas and Havana pleasure industries by any means necessary. The Godfather: How Michael Corleone Changes. Michael Corleone is the protagonist in 'The Godfather' and this video essay is a character study of how his character evolves throughout the movie.

After each murder, there is a transformation of Al Pacino's character Michael Corleone over the course of the three Godfather movies, but the key change takes place in Francis Ford Coppola's 'The Godfather' (1972).

This essay explores the five stages of change in Michael Corleone, from his history as a marine, his relationship to his girlfriend Kay, his evolving relationship with his father Vito (played by Marlon Brando), and his brothers.

Michael Corleone expresses his loyalty to his family through sacrifice and finds true meaning in his life. This is how Michael evolves and becomes Don Corleone.

In the Godfather 1, we are introduced to the behind the scenes of the dark criminal empire run by the notorious don Vito Corleone.

We all watched the intriguing series of events unfold, and the story was brilliantly made by the legendary Francis Ford Coppola, based on the iconic work of Mario Puzo the creator of the original novel.

But there is something that until today has us wondering, a question that wasn't clearly answered and still captivates many debates. That question is, how did Don Vito instinctively know that the individual behind all these treacherous events was not the obvious Philip Tattaglia, rather the more cunning, Don Emilio Barzini?

After his refusal to enter a partnership deal with Philip Tattaglia and Virgil Sollozzo, a hit is placed on him. Even though he miraculously survived the Corleone family is much weaker and has become the target. However after a series of events unfold , Don Vito needed to step in while still not fully recovered, in order to prevent his empire from collapsing. He calls a meeting with the heads of the 5 families, who rule over New York. At this meeting Vito goes in to make peace with the other families in order to safely bring back his son Michael from his exile in Sicily. But Vito’s goal and intentions behind the meeting were not limited to the reasons he gave the other Dons. Vito needed to verify who was behind these lethal attacks on his family. He knew the other dons fairly well, and these attacks seemed to be far more sophisticated and treacherous than the obvious for a man like Philip Tattaglia to have put in place. So if his suspicions were true, then his real enemy is yet to reveal himself…

And so, that’s exactly what we will uncover in this video.

In January 2018, The Danish Broadcast Corporation (DR) aired a concert called “The Morricone Duel” performed by The Danish National Symphony Orchestra /DR SymfoniOrkestret, The Danish National Concert Choir with various soloists conducted by Sarah Hicks.
The score is available on all regular Streaming-Platforms.

The music performed was titles from a wide range of western movies and mafia movies reflecting different perspectives on an Italian-American movie and film music style.

Featured composers were Ennio Morricone, Bernard Herrmann, Nino Rota and Sonny Bono with music from films by Sergio Leone, Quentin Tarantino, Brian DePalma and Francis Ford Coppola.
