Iran accuses Israel of the targeted assassination of two generals and has repeatedly threatened revenge. In the face of these threats, the U.S. has assured Israel of its support. US President Joe Biden told journalists that he had repeatedly told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the US commitment to Israel's security was ironclad.
Following the suspected Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy compound in Syria in early April, Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday reiterated his threat against Israel. The attack was like an attack on Iranian territory, the religious leader said.

US officials reportedly believe that Iran is preparing for an attack on Israel. They have said the attack could take the form of a missile strike or a drone attack. Iran had vowed revenge against Israel after a strike on the Iranian mission in Syria killed soldiers of Iran's Revolutionary Guard. The country's supreme leader reiterated this warning in a speech delivered to mark the holy festival of Eid. Israel's foreign minister has said that any attack launched from Iran will be met with a strong response. The US is trying to contain tensions by relaying messages to Tehran via foreign ministers of the Arab world. At the same time, a top US general is visiting Israel to chalk out a military strategy. United Nations secretary general Antonio Guterres has condemned an air strike on an Iranian consular annex building in Damascus on Monday. A statement from Guterres reiterated that diplomatic consular premises must be respected in accordance with international law.
Iran has blamed Israel for the attack which killed at least thirteen people. Iran's Revolutionary Guard says one of its senior commanders was among those killed. Mohammad Reza Zahedi was a top general with Iran's Quds Force, which oversees covert operations abroad. Several other officers were killed.

For the first time in history, Iran has attacked Israel directly. They just fired drones that will arrive in Israel in a few hours. The IDF believes that cruise missiles may also be part of the attack. The Israeli and American Air Force are going to attempt to intercept all of these before they reach Israel. GPS is jammed throughout the nation. Both Navys are ready to intercept additional Iranian launches. The attack is thought to be layered. We really won’t know anything for a few hours when these drones arrive in Israel.

Iran has launched dozens of drones and missiles at Israel, the country’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed, after Israel said Tehran had begun attacks.
The IRGC said on Saturday that it had released the drones and missiles under the operation “True Promise”, adding that the move was part of the punishment for “Israeli crimes”.
