Lebanon's Iran-backed Hezbollah said Sunday it fired "large numbers of artillery shells and guided missiles" at Israeli positions in a contested border area. In response, Israeli army said it too has fired artillery at southern Lebanon.
"The Islamic resistance (Hezbollah)... attacked three positions of the Zionist enemy in the occupied Lebanese Shebaa farms...with large numbers of artillery shells and guided missiles," the Lebanese Shiiite movement said in a statement, adding it was "in solidarity" with a large-scale air, sea and land attack launched Saturday by the Palestinian group Hamas on Israel.

The number of Israelis killed has shot up to 600 since Hamas launched its biggest attack on Israel by land, air and sea early on Saturday.
Dozens of bodies were found in an area called Reim bordering the Gaza. A number of burnt cars were along a road in the region.
Israel launched strikes on Gaza early dawn on Sunday. Many buildings were damaged. More than 300 Palestinians have been killed so far.
Israeli has also deployed troops along the Lebanon border after Hezbollah shelled areas under its occupation.
Israel retaliated with artillery fire after 3 posts were hit in the Shebaa Farms areas.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Saturday that the country is “at war,” hours after the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas launched its biggest attack on Israel in years.
The surprise assault from Hamas comprised of a surprise ground assault, including gunmen crossing into Israeli territory, and a barrage of rockets fired from Gaza City.
Israel’s defence minister said Hamas had made a "grave mistake" by declaring war on the country, adding that Israel Defence Forces (IDF) soldiers are “fighting the enemy in all infiltration points” and “will win this war.” Israeli military launched air strikes upon Gaza hours later in retaliation, where local witnesses reported hearing heavy explosions.
The attack marked an unprecedented infiltration by an unknown number of Hamas gunmen into Israel from Gaza, and one of the most serious escalations in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in years.
At least 22 Israelis were killed in Hamas’s morning attack, with more than 545 wounded, the health ministry revealed.

The Israeli Defence Forces has declared a “state of readiness for war” and vowed that “Israel will win” after Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel this morning.
The centre and south of Israel have been under sustained rocket fire for more than three and a half hours according to Israeli media. Earlier armed gunmen reportedly infiltrated Israeli communities after crossing the border fence.
Hamas has so far taken 35 Israeli hostages, according to Israel media. At least five Israelis are thought to have been killed and at least 100 hundred more injured.
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned that Hamas “made a grave mistake” in one of the most serious escalations of the conflict in years.
“Today the people are regaining their revolution,” leader of Hamas’ military wing Mohammed Deif said in the recorded message, as he called on Palestinians from east Jerusalem to northern Israel to join the fight and “expel the occupiers and demolish the walls.”

Hamas militants fired thousands of rockets and sent dozens of fighters into Israeli towns near the Gaza Strip in an unprecedented surprise early morning attack during a major Jewish holiday Saturday, killing dozens and stunning the country. Israel said it was now at war with Hamas and launched airstrikes in Gaza, vowing to inflict an "unprecedented price."
Hours after the incursion began, Israeli troops were still fighting Hamas gunmen in 22 locations near the Gaza Strip, including towns and other communities, army spokesman Daniel Hagari said — a startling sign of the breadth of the assault.
"We are at war," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a televised address, declaring a mass army mobilization. "Not an ‘operation,’ not a ‘round,’ but at war."

The ruling Hamas militant group in the Gaza Strip carried out an unprecedented, multi-front attack on Israel at daybreak Saturday, firing thousands of rockets as dozens of Hamas fighters infiltrated the heavily fortified border in several locations by air, land and sea and catching the country off-guard on a major holiday.
